MENOMONIE, Wis. - Bethel University's women's indoor track and field team participated in the UW-Stout Open today and got some strong performances from several individuals.
Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.), the reigning national champion in the indoor mile run, picked up where she left off last season by taking top honors in the same event with a time of 5:09.26. Her time was roughly three seconds better than teammate and fellow All-MIAC cross country runner
Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D. - pictured right) who finished in second with a time of 5:12.33.
Vanessa Moore (Sr., Grantsburg, Wis.) was the top finisher in the high jump with a leap of 1.56 meters (5 ft, 1.25 in), while placing 12th in the preliminaries of the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.80 seconds.
Cari Hohncke (Fr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) and
Amy Neubauer (So., Rogers, Minn.) competed in the long jump and finished second and third, respectively, with jumps of 4.71 meters (15 ft, 5.5 in). Hohncke also ran in the 55 meter dash and finished 18th in the preliminaries. Neubauer finished the preliminaries of the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.49 seconds.
The Royals are scheduled to have a week off before returning to compete in the Bethel Invitational on Saturday, February 7, at the Sports and Recreation Center (SRC) on Bethel's campus.
