ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- On paper, it would appear that the Bethel Royals and the St. Olaf Oles participated in a dual meet today, but representatives from Minnesota State Mankato, as well as a couple of unattached individuals competed in the Bethel Open at the Sports and Recreation Center which kicked off the indoor track season for the Royals.

Top performances from Bethel included:

- Vanessa Moore (Sr., Niagara, Wis.) edged teammate Leah Jackson (Sr., Fridley, Minn.) by just .05 seconds in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.73 seconds. Moore went on to finish third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.01 seconds, and then cleared 1.58 meters in the high jump, uncontested.

- Huldah Omesa (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 65.37 seconds.

- All-MIAC cross country runner and NCAA All-Central Region honoree Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) won the mile run by more than seven seconds with a time of 5:18.65.

- CariJo Hohncke (Fr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) took the top slot in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 6 3/4 inches, which was four inches better than her nearest competitor.

The Royals are now scheduled to head to Menomonie, Wis., next Saturday for the UW-Stout Open, which is set to begin at noon.
