NAPERVILLE, Ill.—The Royals' 4x400-meter relay won their semifinal heat in a season best 3:17.83 Friday afternoon, advancing to tomorrow's final at the NCAA Division III indoor championship meet.
That time, run by the quartet of
Carl Klamm,
Isaac Erickson,
Karl Olsen and
Patrick Klamm, is the fastest time in Division III this season, making the Royals the favorite to capture tomorrow's national title.
"That was a fantastic run," said head coach
Andrew Rock. "I'm proud of the guys for stepping up when it mattered most."
In the semifinals of the open 400 meters,
Carl Klamm squeaked into the final with a time of 49.18 seconds. He will be seeded eighth, but after making some tactical errors early in his race, has much room for improvement.
Karl Olsen ran 22.34 in the 200-meter dash semis and did not advance to the final.
The gun for the 400-meter dash sounds at 2:15 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. The 4x400-meter relay is scheduled for 4:55 p.m.
