NORTHFIELD, Minn.—The Royals won three events at Friday night's St. Olaf Quadrangular, running against athletes from St. Thomas, Gustavus and the host Oles.
Carl Klamm won the 400-meter dash,
Karl Olsen topped the field in the 60 meters and the 4x400-meter relay closed out the meet with a victory.
In the 400m, Klamm ran a winning time of 50.02, the best time in the MIAC, the 10
th-best mark in Division III and the sixth-best time in Bethel history. Klamm also combined with
Shawn Monroe,
Dan Wahlstedt and
Isaac Erickson to run a conference-leading 3:23.76 in the 4x400.
Olsen, one week removed from his record-setting 200-meter dash, won the shorter sprint with a mark of 7.14. That time ranks third in the conference.
Patrick Klamm recorded the second-fastest indoor 400m of his career, running 50.85 to finish second. That mark puts him third on the MIAC performance list. Klamm's solid carry helped Bethel's 4x400 'B' team finish in the runner-up position as well.
Kyle Swanson, Olsen and
Evan Hatton ran the other three legs of that relay.
Justin Brecheisen opened his season with a second-place finish in the 1,000-meter run. The sophomore crossed the line with a time of 2:45.56.
Colton Syler lowered his season-best mark in the 60-meter hurdles to 9.03, crossing the line third.
James Moyer tied his personal best in the high jump, clearing 5-9.75 (1.75 meters).
As a team, Bethel finished fourth, scoring 111 points.
The Royals return home for their next competition, the Gene Glader Classic, Saturday, Feb. 4.
