ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team bounced back nicely from their loss to St. Thomas on Saturday, beating Finlandia University 2-0.
"I thought it was a good response after the St. Thomas game," coach Iwaszkowiec said. "We came out focused and competed well."
The game was scoreless at the half with Bethel having a 10-4 lead in the shot category. The scoring drought was broken by
Kevin Hintz when he scored his third goal of the season off a nice assist from
Brendan Reich. Another goal came ten minutes later by
Rell Sturdevant.
"Scoring two goals off set pieces was a step in the right direction," said coach Iwaszkowiec.
The defense played a big role in the win as this marks the Royals fifth shutout of the season – all the Royals wins this season have been shutouts.
"Josh Carlson,
Spencer Pearson, and
Jakob Bartels anchored the defense to another shutout," coach Iwaszkowiec said.
The Royals improve to 5-2-1 on the season. Their next game is at home against Saint Mary's University at the Ona Orth Soccer Complex.
"We are excited to have a break in our game schedule," coach Iwaszkowiec said. "We need to get healthy and mentally prepare for our next MIAC opponent in Saint Mary's."
