Erin Alpers won the 800-meter run,
Mollie Gillberg took first place in the 5,000 and the Royals ended the first day of competition at the MIAC championship meet in fifth place with 42.9 points.
Alpers, seeded second coming in to the meet, took the lead on the third lap and helped off a stiff challenge in the final stretch to earn the win in a personal best time of 2:16.00.
Gillberg, favored to win her event, did just that, pulling away from the field a mile and a half into the race before cruising home to victory in 17:57.65.
Both Alpers and Gillberg earned All-MIAC honors for their performances.
The distance medley relay contributed an All-MIAC second-place finish.
Annika Halverson anchored the squad, running an outstanding leg to propel the team to the runner-up spot.
Nicole Balzer,
Abby Duevel and
Lydia Herath ran the first three legs.
Jill Krier finished fourth in the 55-meter dash, crossing the line in 7.46.
Hanna Frekot jumped 16'9.75" (5.12m) to place fourth in the long jump.
AddieKay Johnson broke the one-minute barrier for the first time in the 400-meter dash, running 59.99 to finish fifth.
In the high jump,
Katie Dillie cleared 4'10.5" (1.48 meters), finishing in a seven-way tie for sixth place.
Competition resumes tomorrow at 11:45 a.m.
