RESULTSNORTHFIELD, Minn.-A well-rounded effort propelled Bethel to victory at the St. Olaf Triangular meet Friday night. The Royals won the meet on the strength of 21 top-three finishes, topping squads from St. Olaf and Gustavus.
Senior
Bryce DeBoer and freshman
Grant Bullert finished with two event wins each. DeBoer topped the field in the shot put and weight throw with marks of 48'6.75" (14.80 meters) and 51'3.75" (15.64m), respectively. Bullert won the long jump with a leap of 19'7.5" (5.98m) and the triple jump with a 39'4" (11.99m) effort, in addition to a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.
Freshman
Carl Klamm, the MIAC leader in the 600-meter run, won the 800-meter run in 1:58.17, narrowly edging sophomore
Dan Wahlstedt, who ran a new personal best in second at 1:58.24. Those times rank them second and third, respectively, in the MIAC.
Phillip Anderson and
Colton Syler also recorded a 1-2 finish for the Royals, theirs in the 60-meter hurdles. Anderson crossed the line in a personal best time of 9.03 with Syler just 0.01 seconds behind. Anderson's time currently stands third in the MIAC.
Junior
Keith Vollendorf led the sprints crew, winning the 200-meter dash in 23.58 and finishing third in the 400 in 53.39. Freshman
Jon Pytlak finished second behind Vollendorf in the 200, running 23.59, and added another runner-up finish in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 7.31.
Senior
Christian Svennes opened his season by winning the 1,000-meter run in 2:45.95.
Brandon Johnson finished third in that event, running 2:55.29.
Sophomore
James Moyer finished second in the long jump (18'9.25", 5.72m) and third in the pole vault (13'8.25", 4.17m).
Aided by a strong finish, freshman
Evan Hatton finished third in the mile (4:27.96). Fellow freshman
Boston Knighton-Johnson recorded a second-place finish in the triple jump (37'9.5", 11.52m).
Capping off the night, Bethel's 4x400-meter relay teams finished second and third. The squad of Anderson, Klamm,
Marshal Lortie and Wahlstedt ran 3:31.34, one spot ahead of
Connor Haugen,
Taylor Huffman,
David Huffman and
Evan Hatton, who finished in 3:39.24.
The Royals return home for their next meet, the Gene Gladder Classic, Saturday, Feb. 6.
