ResultsMOORHEAD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's track and field team capped off their exciting 2015 indoor season on Saturday, as they competed at the MIAC Championships held on the campus of Concordia College. The Royals recorded a program best by taking second place at the conference meet with 87 total points.
"For us to finish second is a huge testament to this team's determination. I am extremely proud of their finish but the thing that stands out is how they have rallied around each other," commented head coach
Andrew Rock.
The Bethel women had a number of outstanding performances on the final day of competition, but the day was highlighted by the distance events as well as the relays. The Royals started the day with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter relay, clocking a time of 1:48.74.
They later earned big points in the 600-meter run as
Erin Alpers,
Rebecca Wesley and
Nicole Balzer finished fourth, fifth and seventh respectively. Junior
Mollie Gillberg also contributed to the team's point total by capturing fourth-place in the 3000-meter run.
In the field events, sophomore
Katie Dillie finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.55 meters, adding a critical three points to the total for the Royals. Later in the highly anticipated closing event, the women took fourth in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:05.85.
With just the national meet remaining on the collegiate schedule, the indoor season is over for most athletes. Bethel's
Alyssa Solberg knows she will earn an invitation to the NCAA Division III Championships, while
Annika Halverson is hopeful to see her name on the final list in the women's 1,000-meter run.
The Royals will look to take the momentum from their second-place finish into the outdoor season, which officially starts with the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational in San Diego on March 21st.
