ResultsMOORHEAD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's track and field team traveled to Concordia College on Friday for the first day of the 2015 MIAC Indoor Championships. The Royals put together a solid performance throughout the opening day, setting themselves up for a push toward the title on the final day.

The Royals were particularly strong in the short sprints on Friday night, placing two athletes in the top-four of the 60-meter dash and also earning points in the 60-meter hurdles. Freshman Miriam Nordquist took second-place in the 60-meter dash with a personal record of 7.865 seconds and also took third in the hurdles with a time of 9.23 seconds.
In the field events,
Alyssa Solberg placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 15.28 meters, while fellow senior
KelliAnne O'Leary was runner-up in the pole vault with a height of 3.32 meters.
In addition to the sprints and field events, the Royals also had success in the distance events. Freshman
Annika Halverson captured third-place in the mile-run with a time of 5:06.17 while teammate
Melody Walton notched a big personal record in the 5000-meter run. The Bethel women finished the day with a third-place finish in the distance medley relay, coming across the line in a time of 12:42.18.
After the first day, the Royals are positioned in second-place with a total of 52 points, leaving them behind only St. Thomas. The championships will finish on Saturday as the teams jockey for the 2015 indoor title.
