Tostrud Classic ResultsST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University men's track and field team competed at two separate meets over the weekend beginning with the Snow Shoe Open at the University of Minnesota on Friday night. The men then completed the weekend with a trip to St. Olaf College on Saturday where they took their talents to the Tostrud Classic.
"A split squad is always hard because we lose a bit of our complete team support, but we handled it well and had continued improvement as we move towards our conference meet," assessed head coach
Andrew Rock.
Starting off the weekend for the Royals was junior
Tom Ritter who notched a season-best in the 3000-meter run and continues to run up the school record book. Team captain
Cody Britt also captured a season-best in the pole vault with a height of 4.64 meters, which now ranks No. 1 in the conference and No. 31 in the country for that event.
On Saturday, freshmen
Colton Syler and
Dan Wahlstedt led the way as both Royals made significant improvements on their marks for the season. Syler finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.75 seconds while Wahlstedt also ran his way to a top-three finish in the 600-meter event. As a team, the Royals also dropped significant time in the 800-meter relay, finishing with a time of 1:35.81.
The team will now begin preparations for next Friday's Kilt Classic at Macalester College, which will mark the last competition before the conference championships.
