ResultsARDEN HILLS, Minn.—The Bethel University women's track and field squad had a fantastic start to their 2015 campaign thanks to excellent results at their opening meet Saturday. The Bethel Open held on campus at the Sports and Recreation Center featured St. Olaf, Minnesota-Duluth, and St. Scholastica in addition to the Royals.
"This was a great first meet for us," commented head coach
Andrew Rock. "We were pleased with our results and feel like there is a lot to take pride in."
Bethel's sprinters began the meet with a quick start.
Jillian Krier and
Hailey Bohaty went toe-to-toe with one another and a pair from UMD. Krier finished third in both the 60- and 200-meter with times of 8.20 seconds and 28.05, while Bohaty finished fourth with times of 8.30 and 28.31, respectively.
Nicole Balzer continued to excel in the women's 600-meter event, as she finished Saturday's race with a first-place time of 1:41.87. Balzer's teammate
Rebecca Wesley finished third in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:09.63.
Continuing her dominance from the cross country season,
Annika Halverson took home first place in the women's 1-mile run. Halverson paved the way for all competitors with her time of 5:15.84.
Mollie Gillberg also ran exceptionally well in the long-distance event, finishing first in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:31.45.
In the field it was
Katie Dillie that tallied a first-place finish with a high jump performance of 1.53 meters.
KelliAnne O'Leary also scored high in the field with a first place finish in the pole vault.
Already a Bethel record holder,
Alyssa Solberg looks to better her program mark this season. She began with a toss of 10.23 meters in the shot put and 14.79 meters in the weight throw.
BU will now take two weeks off before they get back into competitive action. Friday, January 23 they travel down Snelling Avenue to participate in the St. Thomas Invite.
