SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Bethel University women's hockey team hit the road Saturday looking for a series sweep of No. 11 ranked Wisconsin-Superior but the Yellowjackets downed the Royals 4-1. After taking a 3-1 win on Friday night, the Royals were unable to duplicate that result, despite outshooting UWS. The Royals put up 32 shots to the Yellowjackets 29, including a 13-5 advantage in the third period but the Royals came up empty.
UW-Superior jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first period and extended their lead to 3-0 midway through the second period. Bethel scored their lone goal at 16:49 in the second period when
Lauren Kolak found the back of the net for the second straight game.
Kathryn Larson assisted. That would be all the scoring the Royals could muster however, despite the big shot advantage by Bethel in the third period, UWS was able to tack on one more insurance goal with just under five minutes remaining. Bethel came up empty in all five of their power plays while UWS had just two chances and did not score.
Maggie Straka took her first career loss in net for Bethel, falling to 5-1, despite making 25 saves.
Bethel will now return to MIAC competition with a matchup with the Cardinals of Saint Mary's University. The Royals will host the Cardinals on Friday night at 7 p.m. before traveling to Winona, Minnesota on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
