Results NORTHFIELD, Minn.—Bethel University's women's track and field squad closed out the final day of the 2014 MIAC Championships with lots of excitement, as the Royals not only nabbed nine All-Conference or Honorable Mention achievements, but they set a new track and program record in the 4x100-meter relay. BU took sixth place among all 12 teams competing with 61.5 total points.
The 400-meter quartet composed of
Ashley Magelssen,
Tessa Peterson,
Jillian Krier, and
Courtney Fregeau, not only set a new track and program record with their time of 47.68, but also placed themselves at No. 10 on the national honor roll.
Ashley Quick aided the Royals program record by helping the group take the third-best time in the preliminary race Friday afternoon. Fregeau and Quick then teamed up with
Rebecca Wesley and
Nicole Balzer in the 4x400-meter relay to finish with an honorable-mention time and fifth-place finish of 3:59.12.
Fregeau made noise individually as well, as she put herself in the Top 12 nationwide in the 400-meter race with a time of 56.42—a time that broke her previous record in the event. Fregeau earned first place in the race, which was the same run the senior took home All-American honors at the indoor meet earlier this spring.
Ashley Magelssen also had a pair of great individual races Saturday afternoon, as she gathered two runner-up finishes in the 100- and 200-meter sprints. The Forest Lake, Minn., native finished the 100-meter dash in 12.36 seconds and the 200-meter run in 25.26.
Two others took home All-Conference recognition throughout the MIAC Championships, including
Rebecca Wesley and
Katie Dillie. Wesley finished third in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:13.21, while Dillie also took third with a high jump mark of 5-3 ¼.
In addition to those previously mentioned, two others took home Honorable Mention awards.
Angela Substad reached 10-6 ¼ in the pole vault, which finished fifth among all competitors. Meanwhile,
Rachel Kalk leaped 16-9 ¾ in the long jump to take sixth place overall.
Several women will continue their season this Thursday at UW-La Crosse's Last Chance meet held in La Crosse, Wis., at 6 p.m.
