Haskins, Relay Team Lead Royals at Gene Glader Classic

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's men's track and field squad hosted the newly renamed Gene Glader Classic Saturday afternoon at the Sports and Recreation Center on campus. Included in the group of teams, besides the Royals, were Augsburg, Minnesota, Macalester, Northwestern, and Saint John's.
 
Several athletes had success at the indoor meet. Among them was Zach Haskins, who took first place in the 1000-meter race. Haskins time of 2:34.43 beat out the other eight competitors. Teammate, Matthew Schafer finished fourth out of 24 competitors in the 800-meter race, crossing the finish line in 1:59.47.
 
Other student athletes from Bethel to take first place was the 800-meter relay team, comprised of Zach Barringer, Patrick Klamm, Matt Davis, and Brooks Hitt. The quartet finished the 4x200-meter relay in 1:32.13.
 
Zach Barringer also grasped sixth place out of 36 runners in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.18 seconds in the final heat. Barringer made the final heat with a time of 7.22 seconds in the prelims.
 
Pat Spehn ended the high jump competition in third place, out of 16 opponents, with a leap of 6.30 meters.
 
Bethel will travel to Grinnell, Ia., next weekend to take part in the Darren Young Classic at Grinnell College.
