GRINNELL, Iowa—The Bethel University track and field squad traveled outside the state of Minnesota Saturday for Grinnell College's Darren Young Indoor Classic. The Royals had an exceptional meet with a slew of personal bests and a fourth place finish among nine opposing institutions.

"We had a good day across the board," said coach
Andrew Rock. "It was great to challenge our team against some different competition than we normally see."

Bryce DeBoer continues to excel in his first year with the Royals track and field program. DeBoer finished third in the weight throw, heaving the weight 15.12 meters, which finished third among 21 competitors. DeBoer also took eighth in the shot put event with a throw of 13.11 meters.

Zach Haskins looks poised to keep his farewell tour in tact, as he took third in the 1-mile run—the event he was crowned All-American in a year ago. Haskins time of 4:24.61 was two seconds behind the first place runner from Grinnell, but beat 35 other competitors.

Zack Barringer outlasted 32 competitors in the men's 60-meter dash, as he time of 7.20 seconds finished No. 5 among the field of 37 sprinters. Barringer was one of many to take hold of fifth place, as
Patrick Klamm grabbed fifth in the 400-meter dash, Matt Schafer took fifth in the 800-meter,
Cody Britt in the pole vault, and
Pat Spehn in the long jump.

Bethel's 1,600-meter relay, like the women, took third—beating 11 other squads. The quartet of Matt Davis,
Mark Rice,
Anthony Puckett, and
Patrick Klamm finished the relay in 3:26.89.

"Traveling away from the area presents a different challenge and the kids responded well," Rock continued. "All in all, it was a very positive experience for us."

The Royals track and field squad will compete in the Parents Day event next Saturday at the University of Minnesota before competing in the Pre-MIAC and MIAC meets the following two weekends.Â
