ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethel women's tennis team enjoyed some warmer weather and great results on its spring trip to Orlando, Fla., last week. Abby Edin (Staples, Minn./Staples Motley) led the way, going a perfect 4-0 in singles play and 1-2 with a pair of as-close-as-they-get losses in doubles play. The Royals' junior led the team to a 3-1 record on the trip. For her performance, Edin was named the MIAC Women's Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week.

Edin scored all four of her singles wins from Bethel's No. 1 spot. She scored a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, comeback win against Central to open the trip, then didn't drop another set. Edin scored No. 1 singles victories in straight sets against Wheaton (6-4, 6-1), Illinois Wesleyan (6-3, 6-2) and Roger Williams (6-1, 6-1). Edin also scored an 8-4 No. 2 doubles win against Central, and dropped narrow 8-6 decisions at No. 1 doubles to Wheaton and Illinois Wesleyan. Edin has won her last five singles matches, including a No. 1 singles win to help Bethel beat Saint Benedict a few days prior to the trip.

Thanks to its successful spring trip, the Royals are now above .500 overall at 6-5, and they're currently 2-3 in MIAC play and sitting in seventh place in the conference standings. Bethel will take the rest of the month off after its trip to Orlando. It will return to action on Saturday, April 6, when it hosts Macalester for a MIAC match at 10 a.m. in Arden Hills.
