Royals junior forward honored for play on court and in the classroom

CoSIDA Release

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—The 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Men's Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Included on this short list of competitors is junior forward Kyle Zimmerman (Champlin, Minn.), as he was selected as one of six players among the NCAA Division III District 6 Region (Minn., Mich., Wis.). Zimmerman is the fifth Bethel student-athlete to be recognized bot CoSIDA as a Academic All-District recipient this school year.

Zimmerman is averaging 13.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game after 16 games played. In addition, the Champlin, Minn., native has tallied 29 assists, 23 steals, and 20 blocks, while shooting 56.6 percent from the floor. He and the Royals have recorded a 12-8 record overall and an 8-7 mark against conference opponents. In the classroom, the athletic training major has been equally good—amassing a 3.81 grade point average.

The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes listed in the release above and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is eh second year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I and a College Division (all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 DII and DIII Academic All-America teams program.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
