Week Seven Preview: Bethel Travels to Face Gustavus

Royals look to take down tough Gustie football team

Game Notes | VIDEO: Steve Johnson

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Bethel University's football team looks to shake a 37-0 shutout against No. 3 St. Thomas last Saturday as it travels to St. Peter this weekend to take on Gustavus Adolphus College. The Royals (5-1, 3-1 MIAC), now ranked No. 17 in the American Collegiate Football Coaches (AFCA) Top 25 Coaches' Poll take on the Gusties (2-4, 1-3 MIAC), who forced six turnovers against St. Thomas and lost to Augsburg on a last second Hail Mary pass.

Coming into Saturday's matchup, BU holds the all-time advantage with a 17-16 record against GAC since their first competition in 1978, which includes a 10-2 record since the turn of the century. The Royals, who rank second in total offense and are tied for first in least points allowed, will look to keep a high powered Gustavus offense at bay, while getting its offense back on track.

Conversely, the Gusties will be eager to continue to dominate on defense, as GAC leads the league in fumbles recovered (18) and defensive touchdowns (3). On the offensive side, Gustavus will utilize its legs, averaging just over 4.5 yards per carry in six games played in 2012.
