WINONA, Minn. - A number of Royals finished in the top three of their respective events, including
Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.), who won two events, and Bethel climbed five spots to finish in fifth place out of 12 teams at the MIAC Championship meet, hosted by Saint Mary's University.
Borner won both the 1,500 and 800 meter runs. In the 1,500, she pulled away late to win in 4:30.84, while in the 800, she led from wire to wire winning in a school record time of 2:07.84.
The Royals scored 13 points in the 100 meter hurdles thanks to
Michaela Otto (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) and
Abby Furlong (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.). Otto finished second with a school record time of 15.26, while Furlong finished close behind in fourth with a time of 15.43. In addition to the 100 meter hurdles, Furlong also scored points in both the 400 meter hurdles and the triple jump. She finished second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 64.21, and placed third in the triple jump with a 36 foot 2 inch leap.
Other Royals finishing in the top eight include
Karlynn Whitney (So., New Brighton, Minn.),
Kristin Mork (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.),
Katie Borner (Fr., Cottage Grove, Minn.), and
Krista McCright (Fr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa). Whitney placed fifth in the high jump with a 5 foot 1.25 inch leap. Mork finished sixth in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 18:26.00. Borner placed sixth in the 400 meter dash in 58.15, while McCright finished seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.69.
Next Thursday the Royals will send a handful of athletes to compete in the Last Chance Qualifier held at UW-LaCrosse. Competition begins at 6 p.m.
