NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Bethel University's women's indoor track and field team finished fifth in the MIAC Indoor meet yesterday at Carleton College. The Royals scored 66 points thanks to some strong individual performances.

Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) won the 1,000 meter run in a school record time of 2:54.87 seconds. Kristin Mork (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.), coming off a hard fought race on Friday night, ran strong in the 3,000 meter run as she finished sixth in 10:32.54. Kelley Frost (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) had a good day in the pole vault as she finished fifth with a 10 foot 2 inch vault. "I felt like my vault was decent," said Frost. "I was really close to getting a PR (personal record). I almost made 10-8 (10 feet 8 inches)."

Bethel also scored some points from their strong relay teams. The 4x200 meter relay team made up of Krista McCright (Fr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Michaela Otto (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.), Brittney Herbst (Fr., Moorhead, Minn.), and Kaitie Borner (Fr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) finished sixth with a time of 1:49.43. The 4x400 meter relay team made up of Kaitie Borner, Kelsey Holmberg (Fr., Cambridge, Minn.), Kayla Jelen (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.), and Marie Borner ran a great race finishing fourth in 4:02.93. Their time broke the school record of 4:03.96 which was set 18 years ago.

Marie Borner is the only Royal on the women's team to qualify for the national meet as she hit the automatic qualifying times in both the 800 meter and the mile run this year. The national meet will be held next weekend at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. The rest of the squad will take a much needed break as they rest up for the outdoor season which begins on April 10 when the team will head to Des Moines, Iowa for the Jim Duncan Invitational.
