FT. MYERS, Fla. - One day after dropping a double-header, the Royals returned to winning form with an 11-9 come-from-behind win against SUNY-Fredonia.
The Royals were looking for an answer after dropping back below .500, and turned to
David Freed (Fr., North Oaks, Minn.) to give them a good pitching performance. Freed was able to get through five innings, giving up five earned runs on eight hits in his first collegiate start.
Despite an early 3-1 lead, the Royals found themselves coming from behind twice to get the win. In the sixth inning, down 7-5, the Royals quickly tied the game with back-to-back solo home runs by
Jay Slick (So., River Falls, Wis.) and
Erik Anderson (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.).
After SUNY-Fredonia scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, the Royals used a four-run eighth inning to take the lead for good. Two Fredonia errors aided the Royals' effort before Slick hit a two run triple to left-center field.
Kyle McCracken (Sr., Johnston Iowa) made a rare relief appearance to move to 3-0 on the season, and
John Slick (Sr., River Falls, Wis.) struck out two batters in the ninth inning to earn his second save.
Jay Slick finished 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a home run, and four RBI.
Mike Sedjo (So., West Chicago, Ill.) and
Bjorn Anderson (Sr., Arden Hills, Minn.) each chipped in two hit games and four different Royals, including
Bjorn Anderson, scored two runs.
The Royals will look to improve on their record Thursday in their double-header against Millikin University at 10 a.m.(9 a.m. CT) at Terry Park, but will first have an exhibition game tomorrow against the Twins Rookie team at Lee County Stadium at 1 p.m. (noon CT).
