Marie Borner and Kristin Mork
MIAC Release

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) has announced the individual honorees for the 2010 Indoor Track & Field Championships, which concluded last Saturday afternoon. For the third year in a row, Bethel's Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) is an award recipient. Kristin Mork (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) is Bethel's representative on the fourth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team.

Borner was named both the Outstanding Women's Track Athlete, and also turned out the Women's Outstanding Performance of the Meet. She won two individual events, while the distance medley relay (DMR) team that she was a member of finished first as well. Borner broke the meet and Carleton Rec Center record and automatically qualified for nationals in the mile run with her time of 4:54.44 on Friday. Her time broke her own meet record, was nearly four seconds better than the second place runner, and over 10 seconds better than the previous facility record. Borner has the nation's top time in the mile entering this weekend's NCAA Division III Championships.

Also on Friday, Borner anchored the Bethel DMR team that broke the facility record with a winning time of 12:27.20. On Saturday, she took first in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:54.87, which set a new track record. Borner earned the Women's Outstanding Performance of the Meet in 2008 before winning the national championship in the mile run, and was named the Outstanding Women's Track Athlete in 2009 before finishing second in the mile run at the national championship meet.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC selected the fourth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for Women's Indoor Track & Field. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Kristin Mork eclipsed her personal best time in the 5,000 meter run on Friday night of the MIAC Championship meet by 25 seconds to finish fifth overall and then finished sixth in the 3,000 meter run on Saturday.
