ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - After an exciting indoor track and field season, Bethel University is proud to send six student athletes to the NCAA National Championship meet hosted by DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.
Each of the athletes have had the opportunity to compete for Bethel on a national level previously.
Taylor Ferda (Sr., Whitefish, Mont.) will be making his second trip to the indoor nationals to compete in the 55 meter hurdles. His time of 7.63 seconds was among the 10 best in the nation this indoor season. Ferda will also be racing as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team which set a new school record earlier in the season with a time of 3:18.80. Joining Ferda will be
Joel Quick (Sr., Johnston, Iowa),
Zach Schlegel (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) and
Eric Rhode (Sr., North St. Paul, Minn.). Rhode participated in last year's indoor championship meet in the 400 meter race and earned All-American status.
Jay Quick (Jr., Johnston, Iowa) will make his third consecutive appearance in the high jump after becoming just one of two jumpers to clear the automatic qualifying height of 6 feet, 10.75 inches, which also helped him set a new school record at the Macalester Pre-Conference meet.
Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) will also be making her third consecutive appearance at the national championship meet as she automatically qualified in both the 800 meter run and the mile run. In 2008, Borner became a national champion in the mile run, making her just the second athlete in school history to earn the title. Her time of 4:54.44 set a new MIAC Championship meet record last weekend, breaking her own record by just .05 seconds.
The National Championship meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Eastern time on Friday, March 12.
