ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel Royals track and field team began their indoor season today as they hosted the Bethel Open. Representatives from four different schools, as well as several unattached individuals, competed at the Sports and Recreation Center (SRC) and turned in several strong performances.
Bethel's results of note include:
- Captain
Eric Rhode (Sr., Oakdale, Minn.) won the 600-yard dash in a time of 1:16.84. Rhode also ran a strong leg in the 4x400 meter relay.
- Fellow captain
Taylor Ferda (Sr., Whitefish, Mont.) won the 55 meter hurdles in 7.84 seconds, which is only 0.24 seconds off the school record.
- The third and final co-captain
Dan Greeno (Sr., St. Michael, Minn.) won the 3,000 meter run in a time of 8:34.87, which surpassed the previous school record of 8:37.13.
Other Royal event winners:

Zach Dahl (Sr., Edina, Minn.) won the 400 meter dash in a time of 53.13.

Zach Haskins (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) got off to a strong start with a win in the 1,000 meter run. His time was 2:47.13.

Eric Atherton (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet 3.5 inches.
- Gabe Hyner (So., Apple Valley, Minn.), a transfer from Saint John's, won the pole vault with a 14 foot, 3.25 inch vault.
This was the Royals first of two home meets at the SRC this season. Their final home meet, the Bethel Invitational, will be held on Saturday, February 6. Next, the Royals will travel to Menomonie, Wis., to compete in the UW-Stout Open, which is set to begin at noon.
