HAM LAKE, Minn. - Bethel's men's golf team shaved 10 strokes off their first round score to finish fifth out of 13 teams at the Augsburg Invitational. The Royals posted a 309 at the Par 72, 6,918-yard Majestic Oaks Golf Course on Saturday, putting them in eighth place, but then got a big boost from last season's MIAC Freshman of the Year, Mason Swenson (So., Eagan, Minn.), who cut 10 strokes to finish with a tournament low 69 on Sunday. Bethel's collective 299 tied them for the second best score for Sunday's round.

Swenson finished the two rounds at four over par at 148 (79-69), which was good for seventh place tie out of 76 golfers. He had one birdie and eight bogeys on Saturday, but then had five birdies and just two bogeys on Sunday. Michael Yocum (Sr., Mora, Minn.) finished right behind Swenson at a five over par 149 (74-75), which was good for a tie for 11th place. Charlie Cook (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) tied for 22nd place with a 10-over 154 (76-78), while Toby Robinson (So., Mankato, Minn.) contributed to Bethel's comeback by shooting a 77 on Sunday for a two-round score of 157 (80-77).

The Royals will now set their sights on the Saint John's Invitational, scheduled to take place on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 19-20. The first round is scheduled to take place at Greystone Golf Course in Sauk Centre, Minn., followed by the second round at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell, Minn.
