MARIETTA, Ohio
- With all of the preliminary races out of the way, it's time for each of Bethel's student athletes at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet to focus on the finals. Taylor Ferda (Jr., Whitefish, Mont.) was successful in his quest to reach the championship race of the 110 meter hurdles as he qualified with a time of 14.72 seconds, while Carl Gladitsch (Sr., Bloomer, Wis.) ran in the 3000 meter steeplechase and finished 11th.

Ferda, who earned a trip to the national championship meet last year, but did not make it to the finals, had the seventh best time out of the field of 17 hurdlers. He earned NCAA All-American status as a result of finishing among the top seven athletes at the indoor national championship meet back in 2008, and he has been a key member of the school record setting 4 x 400 meter relay team.

In the 3k steeplechase, Gladitsch was one of 16 runners and crossed the finish line with a time of 9:22.55. This was Gladitsch's first trip to the NCAA championship meet for track and field, though he had run in the national championship cross country race in each of the last two years, earning All-American status his junior year.

Ferda, along with the rest of the 1600 meter relay team will compete in the finals on Saturday, as will Tyler Hinrichs (Sr., Clara City, Minn.) in the 1500 meter run, and Jay Quick (So., Johnston, Iowa) in the high jump.
