Box Score
FT. MYERS, Fla. - In the last four innings of play against SUNY Fredonia, the Bethel Royals outscored the Blue Devils 1-0. Unfortunately, it was the first five innings that proved to be the undoing of the Royals in their 11-1 loss today.
Bethel scored its first and only run in the bottom of the ninth inning, The Slick brothers,
Jay Slick (Fr., River Falls, Wis.) and
John Slick (Jr., River Falls, Wis.) led off the inning with singles, followed by an RBI single by
Bjorn Anderson (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.) to score Jay.
The Royals got solid relief pitching from
Chris Dent (So., Marietta, Ohio), who threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter
Kyle McCracken (Jr., Johnston, Iowa). Dent came in with a runner in scoring position but quickly retired the side with a pick off and a ground out. He then went on to pitch near perfect baseball, allowing just one additional runner over the span of the next three innings.
Matt Jollie (Jr., Shoreview, Minn.) threw a scoreless ninth inning in relief of Dent.
Bethel had eight hits, led by
John Slick who had two, including the Royals only extra base hit.
The loss drops Bethel to 6-7 on the season, while Fredonia improves to 8-1. The Royals are scheduled to take on Lasell tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. for their next games.
