FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Bethel Royals could have used some luck of the Irish today as they took on the Minnesota Twins Rookie squad. As it was, the future major league hopefuls thwarted Bethel's offense and defeated the Royals 5-0.
(Jr., Elk River, Minn.) had a stand up double a few innings later. Bethel put runners in scoring position in a majority of the innings, but no one was able to touch home plate for a run.
Matt Johnson (So., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) started on the hill for the Royals and threw the first three innings in which the Twins did most of their damage. However, Royal pitchers threw four straight scoreless innings, allowing just one more run in the bottom of the eighth.
Adam Beck (Sr., Blackduck, Minn.),
Mark Perzichilli (Jr., Cumberland, Wis.), and
Ryan Jerome (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) all threw for the Royals as well.
Afterward, Bethel players, parents, fans, and alumni gathered for a picnic on the Hammond Stadium grounds, the spring training home of the Twins. The Royals are scheduled to return to action tomorrow afternoon for a single nine inning game against the Lakeland College Muskies of Sheboygan, Wis., beginning at 2 p.m.
