MIAC Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The 2009 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships came to a close on Saturday afternoon with the St. Thomas women capturing the team title. This week, individual awards were announced and Bethel University's
Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) and
Amy Neubauer (So., Rogers, Minn.) are among the honorees.
Borner was bestowed the honor of Outstanding Women's Track Athlete as she won two individual events, while the distance medley relay team that she was a member of earned a first place finish as well. Borner set a new Olson Forum record in the 600 meter dash with a time of 1:35.49 on Saturday. Friday, she smashed the old Olson Forum record for the mile run with a time of 4:55.83 - nearly 15 seconds better than the previous mark set a little over a month ago. Borner will attempt to defend her national championship in the indoor mile run at the NCAA national meet this weekend at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.
As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC selected the third annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for Women's Indoor Track & Field. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Neubauer, who earned a fourth place finish in the pentathlon with 2723 cumulative points, is Bethel's representative.
