ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - For the second time in four weeks, Bethel University hosted an indoor track meet at the Sports and Recreation Center (SRC), drawing athletes from Augsburg, Carleton, Macalester, Northwestern, St. Olaf, and the University of Minnesota, as well as several unattached individuals today.

Bethel runners made up four of the top five finishers in the 200 meter dash, with the top spots going to Eric Rhode (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.) and Joel Quick (Jr., Johnston, Iowa), respectively. The two finished just a quarter of a second apart with Rhode claiming a time of 22.68 seconds as the first place runner.

Another Bethel tandem took the one and two slots in the 1000 meter run as All-MIAC cross country runner Tyler Hinrichs (Sr., Clara City, Minn.) finished with a time of 2:34.40, while teammate Tony Hanf (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) locked up second place with a time of 2:39.00.

Not to be outdone, Bethel's two 4 x 400 meter teams also finished first and second in an eight-team field with times of 3:28.82 and 3:30.10.

Among the notable runner's up, Zach Schlegel (So., Woodbury, Minn.) finished just .20 seconds behind the top runner in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:14.80. Joel McDougall (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.) placed second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:03.36, which was 11 seconds back of first place, but almost 40 seconds better than the nearest competitor. Finally, Bethel's 800 meter relay team finished just .04 seconds back of Northwestern for second place in the event.

In field events, although he ran unattached, Bethel Royals starting quarterback Josh Aakre (Fr., Dawson, Minn.) won the triple jump by more than a foot and a half at 41 feet, 10.5 inches.

The Royals are scheduled to head north next weekend for the Lake Superior Challenge, beginning at noon in Duluth, Minn., hosted by the College of St. Scholastica.
