ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -
Tim Cornish (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) and
Joel Quick (Sr., Johnston, Iowa) will represent Bethel University in this weekend's inaugural Division III Football Senior Classic in Salem, Va. The two Royals join three others from MIAC schools to play on the North team at Salem Stadium, home of the NCAA Division III football championship game since 1993.
Cornish was the primary reason Bethel led the conference in interceptions as he helped account for six of the Royals 18 pick-offs, which was tied for the individual lead. Cornish gained 82 yards on his interceptions and ran one of them back for a touchdown, giving him four in his career off of 15 total interceptions. In addition to his pass defending abilities, he also had 33 tackels - two of them for losses, three pass break-ups, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and three blocked kicks. Cornish's earned a spot on the All-MIAC Defensive Second Team for the second time in his career in 2009.
Quick received Offensive Second Team All-Conference honors this season by leading the conference in receiving yards per game with 93 and receiving touchdowns with 10. He was also seventh in receptions per game, averaging nearly five catches each Saturday. Between receiving, kick and punt returning, the senior amassed 1352 all purpose yards, which was fifth best in the MIAC. Quick received MIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors twice, and was also named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his four-touchdown game against Concordia on Homecoming.
The Division III Senior Football Classic, presented by the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL), will feature 90 seniors from NCAA Division III teams and will be played on the same field as the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl – the NCAA Division III championship game. In a "North vs. South" format all-star game, these players represent 238 DIII football programs.
The D3 Classic Co-Founder and CEO of Football Operations Peter St. Lawrence is a former starting safety at St. Olaf and an alum of the college.
