MONTERREY, Mexico - Bethel University cornerback
Tim Cornish (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) and noseguard
Jared Lyle (Sr., Elgin, Ill.) have been selected to play in the 2009 Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) this Saturday, December 19, on the Tec de Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico.
Cornish and Lyle, along with St. Thomas' Jeffrey Hilliard, will play on Team Stars and Stripes and will take on the Tec Monterrey All-Stars of Mexico. Kickoff is set for noon at the stadium which is near Mexico City.
Saturday's game will be the third such all-star game for Cornish in as many weeks, and the second for Lyle. Both of them earned All-MIAC Defensive Second Team honors for the 2009 season.
The Stars and Stripes team is composed of 52 NCAA Division III All-Stars, with 35 colleges from 20 states represented on the roster. Former La Salle, Delaware Valley College and Widener head coach Bill Manlove will coach Team Stars and Stripes and selected the roster from players nominated by Division III head coaches.
The home team Tec All-Stars 70-man roster has been announced and will be led by legendary coach Frank Gonzalez. The Tec Monterrey All-Stars include 30 players from Campus Monterrey, 15 from Campus Estado de Mexico and Toluca and 10 from Campus Ciudad de México.
The Tazon de Estrellas clash between Team Stars & Stripes and the Tec Monterrey All-Stars will air live via a webcast on GlobalFootball.com at 1pm U.S. Eastern Time on Saturday, December 19.
A Spanish-language broadcast will be available from the Tec de Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico through technology developed and made available by Cambridge, Massachusetts-based YouCastr and will provide all the action to a Global American football audience for a viewing fee of $5.
