ST. PAUL, MInn. - Bethel University's Jess Newstrom (Fr., Cambridge, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete of the Week for her performances last weekend.

Newstrom earned her first collegiate shutout on Saturday in a 1-0 win for the Royals as they swept Saint Benedict. She nearly had back-to-back shutouts as she held the Blazers scoreless through 58:26 of game time on Friday night before they scored with the help of an extra attacker in Bethel's 2-1 win. Newstrom stopped 36 of 37 shots and, along with her teammates, killed off all eight Blazer power play opportunities in the two wins. Newstrom has allowed just five goals in her last four games and has brought her goals against average down by more than two goals in that span. The Royals have won three out of their last four games with Newstrom as goalie.

The Royals are scheduled to return to the ice on January 8 against UW-Eau Claire
