ST. PETER, Minn. - Tucker Morris (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.) is the winner of this year's Midwest Invitational singles tennis tournament, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. Morris advanced through the field of more than 85 tennis players from around the region during the three-day tournament.

He started with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alex Nagle of St. Scholastica, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win over Thao Lor of Concordia University. Morris advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tyler Van Heest of Luther College, then on to the round of eight with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Eric Wollum of UW-Eau Claire. Derek Taylor from UW-Whitewater was Morris' next victim on his way to the Final Four with a 6-3, 7-6 win. Morris faced more of a challenge with Carleton's Paul Cooper, but ultimately won 7-6, 5-7, 10-7, and then defeated Rj Rademacher of UW-Whitewater 6-0, and 7-5 for the tournament win. Last season, Bethel's David Torres also advanced to the championship match of the same tournament, but was defeated.

Other Royals participating in the Midwest Tournament were Bryce Johnson (So., Blaine, Minn.), who advanced to the round of 32 before bowing out to a player from St. Olaf; Matt Hallstrom (So., Willmar, Minn.), who got past the first round, but did not advance any further; and Reggie Ronning (Fr., Alexandria, Minn.), who shared a similar fate.

Two-time All-MIAC singles player Tom Ronning (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) participated in the Wilson ITA Tournament and advanced to the round of 32 after a pair of wins over foes from UW-Oshkosh and St. Scholastica, while Joel Cassens was defeated in the first round by Sammy Ramoni, who advanced to the final four of the tournament.

The men's team will try to earn their fourth consecutive MIAC playoff berth in the spring when regular season play convenes. Their first match is scheduled for February.
