Two Royals selected MIAC All-Conference

ST. PAUL—The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2012 MIAC Women's Tennis Awards Tuesday, including the All-Conference teams, All-MIAC Sportsmanship team and top player and coach honors.
 
Bethel's Abby Edin and Lisa Scheevel were both honored to the MIAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Doubles squad. Edin finished the season 8-9 in singles competition, including a 4-6 effort against conference opponents—playing No. 1 singles in all but one match. Additionally, the Staples, Minn., native and teammate, Lisa Scheevel, finished 7-9 in doubles matches, including a four-match winning streak to end the season.
 
Scheevel played at No. 2 singles in all matches but one, finishing the season 9-8 in one-on-one play, which included a 5-5 mark against conference opponents.

MIAC Playoff champion Carleton led the MIAC with five singles selections and nine total All-Conference picks. St. Catherine, Gustavus and St. Thomas each had seven total, with three singles and three doubles selections apiece. St. Olaf had three singles selections, Bethel had two doubles honorees and Saint Benedict had one singles pick. The singles team had five seniors, three juniors, four sophomores and six first-year players, while the doubles team had six seniors, three juniors, five sophomores and four first-years.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the seventh annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's tennis. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Kristin Vivian was selected to represent Bethel on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
