CANNON FALLS, Minn. - The Bethel Royals men's golf team was primed for a good finish Sunday at the St. Olaf Invite after a leading the field with first round score of 297. The Royals would go on to shoot a collective 312 on the day to finish third out of seven schools at the Invite, just five strokes behind Bemidji State University who won the event with a two-day total of 609. The Invite took place at Summit Golf Club in Cannon Falls, Minn. The par 72, 6,000 yard course proved to benefit Bethel as three Royals finished with scores in the top ten individually.
Mason Swenson (So., Eagan, Minn.) tied for second shooting four-over par at the tournament for a collective total of 148. Swenson finished the first round shooting a 73 and the second round with a 75.
Michael Yocum (Sr., Mora, Minn.) followed close behind Swenson as he finished with a total of 149 (74-75). With his five-over par finish, Yocum would go on to tie for fourth place. Rounding out the top four for the Royals was
Toby Robinson (So., Mankato, Minn.) who finished 10-over par with a total score of 154 (75-79), while
Reed Larson (Sr., Richfield, Minn.) tied for 20th place with a 14-over par 158 (75-83).
The Royals look to carry their momentum from the Invite into this weekend's MIAC Championships. The Championships are being held at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn. The three-day event will begin on Saturday, Oct. 3.
