Borner Leads Bethel to 2nd Place Finish at Les Duke Invitational

GRINNELL, Iowa - Reigning NCAA women's cross country national champion, Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) finished in first place and the Royals finished second only to a nationally ranked Division II school at the 49th annual Les Duke Invitational today.

Borner defeated her nearest competitor by nine seconds with a time of 21:23 in the 6k race, while the next three Royals all finished in the top 15. Alex Potter (Jr., Windom, Minn.) took sixth with a time of 22:47, followed by Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) in ninth place with a time of 23:11. Kristin Mork (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) finished 13th at 23:29, and Kayla Jelen (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) rounded out Bethel's top five runners with a time of 24:21, which was good for 26th place out of 222 runners.

The Royals next scheduled race is the Roy Griak Invitational, which will take place on September 26, at the Les Bolstad Golf Course on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota.
