Ferda, Gladitsch, Hinrichs Named to 2009 USTFCCCA Division III Men’s All-Academic Track and Field Team

- Three members of Bethel's men's track and field team have been named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team. Taylor Ferda (Jr., Whitefish, Mont.), Carl Gladitsch (Sr., Bloomer, Wis.), and Tyler Hinrichs (Sr., Clara City, Minn.) join 15 other student athletes from the MIAC also on the list.

Ferda competed in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field national championships in the 110 meter high hurdles and earned All-American status by finishing fifth with a time of 14.60 seconds. Earlier in the season, he broke his own school record in the event with a time of 14.48 seconds. He was also the lead off runner in the school record setting 4 x 400 meter relay team that finished second at the national meet.  Ferda also earned 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District and All-American honors.

Gladitsch competed in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field national championship meet in the 3000 meter steeplechase where he finished 11th. Earlier in the season, he broke his own school record in the even with a time of 9:14.09. Gladitsch also competed in the national championship meet for cross country in the fall.

Hinrichs also competed at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field national championships, finishing eighth out of 12 in the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:55.29. Hinrichs put together a stellar senior year, earning All-MIAC honors in cross country, and winning the mile run at the indoor track and field conference meet. He won the 1500 meter run at the outdoor conference meet and set a new school record in the event at the Last Chance Qualifier meet to get an automatic qualifying time for the national meet.

A total of 186 student-athletes representing 78 Division III colleges and universities made up the 2009 All-Academic team. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Tufts University led the way with the most student-athletes on the list with eight selections each, followed by the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse with seven. For conferences, the WIAC had the most student-athletes on the list with 23 followed by the UAA with 21, and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 18.
 
The USTFCCCA honors Division III individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field season. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
