NORTHFIELD, Minn. -
Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) is once again the conference champion and record holder in the 1500 meter race while
Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) reached her goal of achieving an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the same race as the duo took the top two spots at the MIAC Championships today. As a team, the Royals finished seventh out of 12 teams with 52.5 points.
Borner's time of 4:29.20 betters her own conference meet record by more than three seconds. Jelen also beat Borner's former record by finishing with a time of 4:32.04, which guarantees her a spot in the national championship race. The two will most likely be joined in Marietta, Ohio, by teammate
Vanessa Moore (Sr., Grantsburg, Wis.) in the high jump as she is currently tied with five individuals for the fifth best leap so far this season. Moore, who finished third in the high jump at the conference meet, took fifth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.32 seconds.
Amy Neubauer (So., Rogers, Minn.) took fifth in her event - the 400 meter hurdles - with a time of 68.34 seconds. Neubauer and Moore helped Bethel to a third place finish in the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 50.41 seconds, along with
Michaela Otto (Jr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) and
Leah Jackson (Sr., Fridley, Minn.). Neubauer, Moore, Jelen, and Borner made up the 4 x 400 meter relay team that finished fifth with a time of 3:59.30, while Jelen, Neubauer, Borner, and
Michelle Benson (So., Traverse City, Mich.) took third in the 4 x 800 meter relay with a time of 9:38.18.
In field events, aside from Moore,
Kelley Frost (So., Bemidji, Minn.) placed fourth in the pole vault by clearing 3.22 meters (10 feet, 6.75 inches). Frost's finish is a new school record, beating the former mark of 10 feet, 6 inches, set by
Liz Labatt in 2006.
Bethel athletes will have one last shot to qualify for the national meet at the Last Chance Qualifier at UW-Lacrosse on Thursday.
