Day 1 Results

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - With one day of competition at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track and field championships in the books, the Bethel Royals have a total of 12 points, which puts them in a cluster of four teams separated by less than four points. While a few events wrapped up today, many of the finals will take place on Saturday.

Bethel earned points in each of the events that finished today, including the high jump where Vanessa Moore (Sr., Grantsburg, Wis.) placed third by clearing 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches). Moore also qualified for the finals in the 200 meter dash and was part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team that finished second in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals.

Bethel's 4 x 800 meter relay team, consisting of Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.), Michelle Benson (So., Traverse City, Mich.), Amy Neubauer (So., Rogers, Minn.), and Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) placed third with a time of 9:38.18. Jelen and Borner will each move on to the finals of the 1500 meter run as well, while Neubauer advances to the finals in the 400 meter hurdles thanks to their performances today.

Competition begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Laird Stadium on the campus of Carleton College.
