Borner, Jelen advance to finals of national championship meet

Heather Jelen will advance to the finals in the 1500.

MARIETTA, Ohio - Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) set a new stadium record in the preliminaries of the 1500 meter run at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field championship meet. Both she and teammate Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) qualified for the finals in the event with their times today.

Borner's time of 4:32.92 was the best among the 17 runners in the race and it set a new record at Don Drumm Stadium, while Jelen finished with a time of 4:37.40 in her first outdoor national meet run. The two ran in different heats, and while Borner finished first in her heat, Jelen finished third in hers.
