MARIETTA, Ohio - Two events at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field national championship meet featured Bethel University athletes, and in both cases, those competing will advance to the finals.
Tyler Hinrichs (Sr., Clara City, Minn.) claimed a spot in the finals by finishing among the top four runners in his heat with a time of 3:55.82. Meanwhile, the 4 x 400 meter relay team shattered the school record by finishing with a time of 3:12.47, which was second only to St. Thomas. The team, consisting of
Taylor Ferda (Jr., Whitefish, Mont.),
Joel Quick (Jr., Johnston, Iowa),
Zach Schlegel (So., Woodbury, Minn.), and
Eric Rhode (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.) not only bettered the school record by almost 1.5 seconds, but also beat the
previous season best mark in Division III track and field.
The finals for both the 1500 meter run and the 1600 meter relay are scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon at Don Drumm stadium on the campus of Marietta College. In the 1600 meter relay, four of the final eight teams are from the MIAC.
