SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - In their final preparation for the MIAC Championships, several Bethel Royals posted some good times at the 85th annual Howard Wood Relays. Joel Quick (Jr., Johnston, Iowa), Eric Rhode (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.), and Taylor Ferda (Jr., Whitefish, Mont.) each claimed a first place finish, while a few others placed in the top five of their respective events.

Joel Quick won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.96 seconds, while finishing third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.19. His time wasn't too far off that of first place finisher and teammate Rhode, who took the top spot in the 200 at 21.97 - less than two-tenths of a second away from an NCAA provisional time. Rhode finished the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.14.

Both Quick and Rhode are members of the 4 x 400 meter relay team that finished second last weekend at the Drake Relays, as is Ferda, who won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.57 seconds - less than three-tenths of a second away from an NCAA provisional time. However, he did improve on his provisional time in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.55 seconds, putting his performance in the top 10 in the nation this year.

Another highlight of the meet was a second place finish for Tyler Hinrichs (Sr., Clara City, Minn.) in the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:52.99, which is nearly two seconds better than his previous NCAA provisional qualifying time set at the Point Loma Invitational back in late March. High jumper Jay Quick (So., Johnston, Iowa) matched his season-best leap of 2.05 meters (6 feet, 8.75 inches), which is also NCAA provisional worthy.

Other notable finishes for Bethel include a fourth place time in the 100 meter dash for Zach Dahl (So., Edina, MInn.) at 11.25; a third place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase for Carl Gladitsch (Sr., Bloomer, Wis.) at 9:32.74; a third place finish for Dan Greeno (Jr., St. Michael, Minn.) in the 5000 meter run at 14:57.10; and a fifth place finish for Andrew Rice (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.60.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team finished third with a time of 43:39, while the 4 x 400 meter relay team finished fourth at 3:24.52.

Bethel's next scheduled meet is the conference championship meet, which begins on Friday, May 8, at 2 p.m. on the campus of Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
