LA CROSSE, Wis.
- Records weren't just broken, they were shattered at the Last Chance Qualifier meet, hosted by UW-La Crosse. With the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships just around the corner, Tyler Hinrichs (Sr., Clara City, Minn.), Carl Gladitsch (Sr., Bloomer, Wis.), Dan Greeno (Jr., St. Michael, Minn.), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team each improved upon school record times.

Hinrichs, who previously broke a 33-year old school record set by Bethel athletic hall of fame member Larry Caldwell ('77) this season, broke his own record by nearly three seconds with a time of 3:50.15. His time catapults him from his current #20 position on the national performance list to the top 10 for the moment, and gives him an automatic qualifying time.

Gladitsch also demolished his own school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase, set just last weekend at the MIAC Championships. The conference champion shaved more than 13 seconds off of his previous best time to earn an NCAA provisional time in the event at 9:14.09, which currently places him in the top 15 in the nation.

Bethel's 4 x 400 meter relay team also improved upon their NCAA provisional time by finishing with a time of 3:13.92, which is .75 seconds better than the school record time set last year. The team consisted of Mark Stockhowe (So., Burnsville, Minn.), Zach Schlegel (So., Woodbury, Minn.), Joel Quick (Jr., Johnston, Iowa), and Eric Rhode (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.).

Finally, Greeno beat his own school record in the 5000 meter run and finished the race in first place by more than 10 seconds with a time of 14:49.05. Unfortunately, his time still left him just over four seconds away from an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Greeno has already earned an NCAA provisional time in the 10k race, but currently ranks 24th on the national performance list.

Dennis Meints (So., Pine Island, Minn.) represented Bethel in the 800 meter run and finished with a time of 1:55.99, while Taylor Ferda (Jr., Whitefish, Mont.) took third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.77 seconds, and Jay Quick (So., Johnston, Iowa) finished in a tie for fifth in the high jump by clearing 1.95 meters (6 feet, 4.75 inches).

At the moment, Bethel could potentially be represented by eight different athletes at the national championship meet in Marietta, Ohio, which would be the most the school has ever sent. The list of those who have qualified will be announced in the coming days.
