MIAC Release

ST. PAUL, Minn.
- The 2009 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships came to a close last Saturday afternoon with the St. Thomas women capturing the team title. This week, individual awards were announced and among the honorees is Bethel University's Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.).

Borner recorded a time of 4:29.20 in the 1500 meter run, which betters her own conference meet record by more than three seconds. Borner's time on Saturday is an NCAA Automatic Qualifying time, making it the second year in a row she will compete in the event.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC selected the third annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for Women's Outdoor Track & Field. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Amy Neubauer (So., Rogers, Minn.) is Bethel's representative to the team. Neubauer took fifth in her event - the 400 meter hurdles - with a time of 68.34 seconds. She also helped Bethel to a third place finish in the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 50.41 seconds. In addition, Neubauer and Borner made up half the 4 x 400 meter relay team that finished fifth with a time of 3:59.30, and half the 4 x 800 meter relay team that took third with a time of 9:38.18.
