MINNEAPOLIS - The Bethel Royals' three match winning streak came to an end today at the hands of the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire. The Royal men were a challenge for the Blugolds, and a few Royals tallied wins against the visiting team, but they ultimately fell 3-6.
Both
Tom Ronning (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) and
David Torres, (Sr., Arden Hills, Minn.) recorded wins in the singles category today, though they were the only Royals able to do so. In the number one spot, Ronning defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-1, and Torres, playing number two, finished 6-3, 6-4.
Doubles results were much the same as singles, as just one of the three pairs were able to secure a victory for Bethel. The pair again included Torres, the only Royal to go two-for-two on the day, and
Jordan McIver (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.). The two defeated their opponents handily, finishing at a score of 8-3.
Despite the loss, the Royals are still looking at a fairly comfortable 6-4 overall and 3-2 conference record. The Blugolds rose to a record of 21-7 on the year after their weekend victory. Up next for Bethel is a match against nearby Macalester, which is scheduled to take place April 15, at 4:30 p.m. at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex across the street from the campus.
