Bethel finishes third out of 13 at Carleton Relays

NORTHFIELD, Minn.
- Three individuals and two relay teams took top spots for Bethel today at the Carleton Relays, helping the Royals earn 119 points in a competition that featured representatives from 13 different schools.

Eric Rhode (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.) finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.81 seconds, just .10 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Rhode was also a member of the 4 x 400 meter relay team that earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event with a time of 3:16.48. Other members included joel Quick (Jr., Johnston, Iowa), Zach Schlegel (So., Woodbury, Minn.), and Taylor Ferda (Jr., Whitefish, Mont.). Ferda went on to earn second place and an NCAA provisional time of 14.84 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, as well as a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.87 seconds.

Tyler Hinrichs (Sr., Clara City, Minn.) cruised to a win of nearly five seconds in the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:56.61, making him the only participant of 29 to finish under four minutes. Meanwhile, Jay Quick (So., Johnston, Iowa) cleared 1.98 meters (6 feet, 6 inches) to win the high jump, while three other Bethel high jumpers finished in the top six, and the 4 x 800 meter relay team won by more than 21 seconds with a time of 7:57.63.

Other notable results for Bethel include a fourth place finish for Tony Hanf (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.51; a fifth place finish for Zach Dahl (So., Edina, Minn.) in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.41 seconds; a fifth place finish in the discus throw for Mitchell Elliott (Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) at 41.61 meters (136 feet, 6 inches); and a fifh place finish in the pole vault for Steve Vedders (Jr., Foreston, Minn.) as he cleared 3.85 meters (12 feet, 7.5 inches).
