NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Bethel University was well represented at the Tostrud Classic today, hosted by St. Olaf College. The Royals claimed victory in the high jump, the 800 meter relay, and the distance medley relay, setting a new school record in the latter. Bethel also earned four second place finishes.
Mike Fredrickson (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) and
Joshua Allen (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) took the top two spots in the high jump by clearing 1.83 meters. Allen went on to finish third in the long jump with a leap of 5.43 meters, while
Mark Stockhowe (So., Burnsville, Minn.) placed second in the same event at 5.50 meters.
In the 800 meter relay, Bethel defeated St. Olaf by more than 11 seconds with a time of 1:32.68, and in the distance medley relay, Royal runners set a new school record with a time of 10:31.15, which was more than a minute better than the next closest team and .55 seconds better than the previous school record set last year.
Gabe Kleinschmidt (Fr., Hastings, Minn.) finished second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.63 seconds. He also finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.35 seconds.
Zach Schlegel (So., Woodbury, Minn.) was Bethel's other second place finisher with a time of 1:14.94 in the 600 yard dash.
The Royals are scheduled to compete in the Pre-Conference Meet, hosted by Macalester College next Friday night, beginning at 5 p.m.
