DULUTH, Minn. - The Bethel University women's track and field team headed north to compete in the Lake Superior Challenge, hosted by St. Scholastica. Among the schools with athletes at the meet were Augsburg, University of Minnesota Duluth, St. Scholastica, UW-Superior, Bemidji State, Lakehead University, Michigan Tech, and Northern Michigan.

Although there were no team scores, several Royals finished close to or at the top of their respective events. Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) and Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) took the top two spots in the 800 meter run with times of 2:12.68 and 2:16.75, respectively.

Vanessa Moore (Sr., Grantsburg, Wis.) won the high jump by clearing 5 feet 3.25 inches (1.61 meters), which was nearly three inches higher than her nearest competitor. Moore also finished fifth in the 55 meter dash and eighth in the 200 meter dash. Moore's 7.72 seconds in the 55 m race was just .02 seconds behind teammate Leah Jackson (Sr., Fridley, Minn.), but Jackson finished second overall, indicating a very tight race for the middle finishes.

Other notable performances include a second place finish in the triple jump for Huldah Omesa (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) with a distance of 34 feet 4 inches (10.46 m) and a second place finish for the 4 x 400 meter relay team with a time of 4:08.80.

Larissa Thune (Fr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) was the only Division III runner to compete in the 600 meter run and finished with a time of 1:55.19. In a similar case, Michelle Benson (So., Traverse City, Mich.) ran the 1000 meter run in a time of 3:16.34.

The Royals are scheduled to come back to the Twin Cities metro area to compete in the University of Minnesota Parent's Day Open next Saturday morning, beginning at 10 a.m. in the U of M Fieldhouse.
