MIAC Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bethel University's
Marie Borner (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her performance last weekend.
Borner collected her third consecutive MIAC championship victory, covering the six-kilometer course in 21:43 on Saturday at Como Park Golf Course. Borner beat Carleton's Simone Childs-Walker by 32 seconds in chilly temperature on a soft, muddy course. As a team, Bethel finished in second place out of 12 teams for the second year in a row. Borner surged to the front of the race immediately, building a ten to twelve second lead within the first two miles. She is the first woman to win the individual MIAC Championship three years in a row since Julia Kirtland of Macalester did it from 1984-86.
Borner and the Royals' next scheduled meet is the regional race in Grinnell, Iowa, on Nov. 14
